Exceptional and elegant resort fashion that redefines luxurious and glamorous designs. The right choice and composition in material, colour, cut as well as high-quality workmanship are judged above all. The models embody a timeless style and attention to detail.
Electrifying, energetic, feminine swimwear that can be playful at the same time. The swimwear designs are meant to radiate a good mood and stand for positive feelings that their wearers like to show with them.
The award for a brand that implements an authentic collection idea. It is about exceptional cuts, finely selected fabrics and the composition of existing or innovative materials that can also be in a cultural dialogue. The models should make women feel fabulous and empowered. The cuts provoke (surreptitious) looks. Wild, daring, extravagant or provocative!
We award emerging talents in the swimwear industry. The creativity and innovation of a newcomer collection are judged. Did this type of swimwear exist before? What is new? This may involve designs, cuts, fabrics or workmanship. The company has been on the market for no longer than three years.

"Cidinho" is the ultimate protagonist of swimwear in South America. He is the inventor of the models "Asa Delta" and "Fio Dental", which went around the world. In 1979, Cidinho opened the first pure swimwear store in South America, in Ipanema, a district of Rio de Janeiro. Shortly after, he founded his own label, "BumBum Ipanema," and transformed his store into a single-brand store, the first of its kind in South America. The brand expanded greatly and had stores in Europe and North America. Today, Cidinho is in his mid-70s and still operates BumBum Ipanema stores around Rio de Janeiro. He is the center of all historical publications about swimwear in Brazil. At the end of 2019, Cidinho celebrated the 40th anniversary of his brand with great publicity. His charisma is spirited and infectious. He is a brand himself and the most positive ambassador for swimwear and the pure pleasure and joy of beach life. Cidinho is a legend for life.
Many collections of swimwear manufacturers are very extensive and wide-ranging, so that sub-collections fit into different categories. This means that a label can definitely participate in several categories.

The BikiniARTmuseum Foundation operates separately from the museum in Bad Rappenau. Its aim is to create an institution in which the social and political dimension of the subject of swimwear can be reflected upon and discussed. Historical information and experiences are to be dealt with and projects are to be supported in order to strengthen the historical awareness of swimwear manufacturers and the entire swimwear industry.
Internationally, the reappraisal of the history of swimwear has mainly taken place in books. The focus has always been on the events of each author's country. Global arguments, links and comparisons are often present, but not comprehensive.
In an ongoing process, the BAM is now building an archive, the memory of swimwear and bathing culture. It is grade the only central place for all kinds of information about swimwear and its related topics. The knowledge brought together and constantly updated is available not only to museum visitors but also, through the Foundation, to all historians, journalists, students or other fashion lovers. The BAM contributes to new publications, supports exhibitions and organises its own events. In particular on the conflict Sexism versus Liberation. Does today's freedom for women to wear what they want when bathing - which was forbidden for centuries and severely punished - have its limits or rules of the game?
The BAM is intended to be an opinion leader and to raise awareness of the political and social dimension of the swimsuit and bikini, which are still the subject of much controversy worldwide. A fashion segment with explosive power in many respects. In societies where women have equal rights, they decide exclusively for themselves how they want to show themselves in their swimwear.
A panel of international experts supports the professional quality. This panel of experts is called the International Board of Swimwear History (IBoSH) and is involved in the jury of the JANARA Swimwear Award.
Women have only been able to choose the swimwear they like and are comfortable with since the mid-20th century, at least in the Western world.
The liberation for this took over a century. For this to happen, rigid social regulations first had to be overcome. Janara, the symbolic figure of the BAM, stands for the struggle of strong women who stood up for more personal freedom and thus promoted this liberation.
The comprehensive history of swimwear has been compiled in detail and globally for the first time by BAM and made accessible to the public since 05 July 2020. Thus the first memory, of a very emotional garment for people, has been created. And the history of swimwear lives, the more it is unfulfilled by an active and delightful present. It is colourful, exciting and elegant, traditional and innovative, and even carries a social responsibility.
The JANARA Swimwear Award, which honours the best collections of a year from swimwear manufacturers from all corners of the globe, thus draws attention to a wonderful and versatile fashion industry. The aim is to encourage women in particular to defend the freedom they have won. Our wish is that the knowledge that is now available and accessible to all will lead to further social movements that will help free sunbathing and thus a more pleasant swimming experience to gain increasing acceptance in other cultures as well.

Every year, an honorary prize is awarded to a person who has made an outstanding contribution to swimwear culture in the past year or who has given rise to an overall assessment of his or her work.
Such personalities can be proposed internally as well as externally. The discussion of all jury members results in such an award. A choice between several proposals does not take place. The honorary prize is awarded if all jury members support the proposal.
Every year the best swimwear labels are awarded for their outstanding collections. Women's favourite item of clothing, a booming global market worth billions and the creative ideas of great designers: bikinis and swimsuits are increasingly in focus. More and more sophisticated cuts, the finest fabrics, extravagant appliqués, imaginative colour combinations, the range is becoming ever more extensive. And really cheeky start-ups with new ideas are also sprouting from the ground, especially with sustainability themes, environmental responsibility or social messages. The international jury of the "Foundation"- the first worldwide museum for swimwear and bathing culture BikiniARTmuseum - has held an award ceremony for the first time in 2020 to make the many wonderful swimwear labels known to a wide audience.
Six special categories have been formed for the great new swimwear collections from around the world, with one winner chosen in each. Each jury member can propose as many collections in each category as they wish. All the proposed collections will then be scored by all the jury members. The winner in the respective category is the one who has the most points. In case of a tie, the result of the female jury members will decide. If there is still a tie, a run-off with the labels with equal points will be held.
The BikiniARTmuseum opened on July 5, 2020, the official World Bikini Day. The election of the best brands 2020 and the most important person 2020 took place at the same time.
This is now to be repeated every year. The winners shall always be published on July 5, Bikini Day. Due to the global COVID 19 pandemic, the results in 2020 and 2021 will only be released through the media. Media interest has been fantastic for the launch year. A gala is planned for the first time in 2022.
The jury is made up of an outstanding number of swimwear and art experts as well as media personalities and is expected to continue to grow. It is planned to gain a strategic partner, especially from the international media sector. Then the public can also be involved in the voting process.
